Call me daredevil

You may marvel at those

Who leap off planes, swim with sharks, scale towering cliffs,

Applaud them for their bravery, their audacity,

Their dare-devil spirit.

But guess what, I’ve done scarier.

I’ve turned my insides outside-in

To be examined and picked

By the person I love

Here is one defect, here’s another, and here’s another

I’ve shown them all,

Shown so many,

There’s no turning back.

But what will you do now?

Return, replace, discard?

Or maybe — just maybe —

You’ll say this one’s special,

The one to keep

Forever and ever.
